JKLF Letter To High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy

JKLF Letter To High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy

H.E Madame Frederica Mogherini
High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy
European Commission, Rue de la Loi/ Wetstraat 200
1049 Brussels Belgium
28 March 2016

Dear Madame Mogherini,

Sub: Is Mr Modi’s India Ready to engage for a peaceful Solution over Kashmir?

We first wrote to you in November 2014 reminding you of EU’s vital role for a just and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue, as well as welcoming you on succeeding Madame Ashton as the High Representative of the EU.

Today we take this opportunity and write to you again as the European Union-EU- welcomes Indian Prime Minister, Mr

Narendra Modi on 30 March 2016 in what is claimed by some MEPs with ‘open arms’.
As we seek a just and peaceful solution of the Kashmir issue we therefore ask the EU through your esteemed person: Is Mr Modi’s India ready to engage for a peaceful and lasting solution of the Kashmir issue based on the fundamental, inherent and inalienable rights of 20 million people  on both sides of the Line of Control-LoC?

However Madame Mogherini, before we take the liberty to ask some further questions regarding Mr Modi’s visit, we must put on record our profound sadness in connection with the recent terrorist attacks in Brussels and the loss of precious lives. We unequivocally condemn these heinous outrages and extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to families of the deceased and the injured. Our prayers are with them and with the people of Belgium and hope that Brussels will soon return to normality with its customary welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

With reference to Mr Modi’s visit to the EU on 30 March 2016 we strongly hope that despite economic considerations with India, the EU will not overlook human rights violations being committed on daily basis in Kashmir by Indian military and para military forces. Madame innocent people-especially youngsters- are shot dead by the occupation forces under the cover of anti-people draconian laws.

The 700,000 Indian forces of occupation are responsible for the killing of 100,000 Kashmiris during the past 28 years.  There are 8000 missing people vanished without a trace. If Mr Modi is not responsible for these one wonders who is?  There are over 7000 unmarked graves throughout the Indian occupied part of Jammu Kashmir. Some of the most heinous acts of depravity have been committed against Kashmiri women by the Indian regular army. The occupation forces act with impunity under the cover of draconian laws such as Armed Forces Special Powers Act-AFSPA.

The populace of Indian occupied Jammu Kashmir is not only subjected to the militarised oppression but is also experiencing the communal fury that has been unleashed by the BJP and its extreme right wing allies in Indian occupied Jammu Kashmir with dire consequences.

Madame Mogherini it is not for us to remind you of what has happened under Mr Modi’s watch in India itself, as we always confine ourselves to the conduct of Indian occupation of Jammu Kashmir; but massacre of as many as two thousand innocent Indian citizens in Gujarat did take place when Mr Modi was Chief Minister there. Since Mr Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party-BJP- came into power, India has become more intolerant and chauvinistic due to BJP’s nexus with the ultra-extremist Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sang-RSS, Shiv Sena and Vishwa Hindu Prashad-VHP.  The Indian Prime Minister therefore does not come to the EU with clean hands.

We look to you therefore, to take the Indian Prime Minister to task on the substantial issue of Kashmir’s future status, in accordance with India’s commitments on the matter at the United Nations. We hope and anticipate that you will remind Mr Modi of India’s responsibility to facilitate a plebiscite to ascertain the status of the territory in accordance with the unfettered democratic decision and expression of 20 million Kashmiris.

We would like to remind you Madame that the Kashmir issue is wrongly seen as a territorial dispute between India and Pakistan. And that India and Pakistan should not be considered the arbiters of Kashmir’s future status. This right Madame Mogherini is vested in the democratic expression of 20 million people of Jammu Kashmir, who along with their country are forcibly divided between India and Pakistan.

Madame Mogherini, the Indian Prime Minister must be reminded that on 1 January 1948 it was an Indian government which took the Kashmir issue to the United Nations. And the following is an example of  an earliest Indian commitment on Kashmir: “ that the question of Kashmir’s future status vis-a vis its neighbours and the world at large and the question on whether Kashmir should withdraw from her accession to India, and either accede to Pakistan or remain independent with a right to claim admission as a member of the UN all this we have recognised to be a matter for unfettered decision by the people of Kashmir after normal life is restored to them”  UNSC document Agenda 227.

Over the years successive Indian governments have hidden behind bilateral 1972 agreement- known as the Shimla Accord- between India and Pakistan to resolve the question of Kashmir’s future status. Thus far the entrenched positions of both countries and in particular, India’s intransigence, have yielded nothing by way of progress over the past 44 years. Since the bilateral agreement between India and Pakistan excludes the Kashmiris in the process, we Kashmiris do not recognise the Shimla Agreement.

India unfortunately has reneged on all its commitments in respect of Kashmir, it is our sincere hope that you will take to task the Prime Minister of ‘largest democracy’ for reneging on his country’s international commitments, solemn pledges and obligations on the inherent and inalienable rights and aspirations of Kashmiris, to determine the political destiny of their choice. This is nothing short of the   betrayal of the United Nations’ trust and that of the international community which was reposed in India over the status of Kashmir.

Mr Modi’s government denies pro freedom leadership the right of speech and assembly. The stifling of political and democratic expression is carried out through a combination of militarised oppression, police action, violent extremism and communal and chauvinist acts of the BJP and the RSS. For example over the past year alone, Chairman of the JKLF Mr Muhammed Yasin Malik  has been denied his basic democratic right of assembly and free speech  hundreds of times. This is hardly a reflection of a democratic society let alone the ‘largest democracy’!

Economic considerations, India’s very large population and its power of consumption apart- the EU with its fundamental principles of democracy, justice, equality and fairness, must not forsake the 20 million people of Jammu Kashmir. The EU more than others as a democratic economic and political block, must uphold the wishes, aspirations and rights of Kashmiri people.

Doing so is consistent with the basic principles and values of the EU. No one else will uphold the right of Kashmiris to justice and fairness. India and to a lesser extend Pakistan have both utterly failed to do so since 1947.

Madame Mogherini we urge you to make a start by taking the leader of the ‘largest democracy’- a democracy that incidentally has never extended beyond Indian border and into Indian occupied Jammu Kashmir- to task by asking him to meet India’s commitment over the future status of Kashmir.

We firmly believe that it would be an injustice to Kashmiris if the EU receives an Indian Prime Minister unconditionally with open arms as some Members of European Parliament –MEPs have suggested according to press reports.

Protest against incarceration of Professor SAR Geelani others

Protest against incarceration of Professor SAR Geelani others

Protest against incarceration of Professor SAR Geelani others, held at Jenab sahib Soura….
India and its stooges have choked every little space for peaceful political activities, Political dissent and this is pushing youth to the wall //JKLF
Tributes paid to recently martyred youth…….

Jenab sahib Soura // Choking peaceful space on dissent and arresting people for sedition merely for standing with truth is a ploy to create an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. Prolonging incarceration of Professor SAR Geelani and others shows the double faced and hypocritical approach of Indian rulers. This was stated by the vice chairman JKLF Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi and others while speaking to people at Jenab Sahib Soura today. Earlier JKLF leaders and activists along with people from other walks of life participated in a protest rally held at Soura.

The rally was organized to stage protest against prolonging incarceration of noted educationist and social leader Professor SAR Geelani and others who are in jail under fake and manipulated sedition charges. Participants of the rally chanted slogans in favor of Azadi, Martyrs and immediate release of Professor Geelani and other students.

JKLF leaders Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi, Noor Muhammad Kalwal, Zahoor Ahmad Butt, Sheikh Khalid, Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri, Muhammad Sideeq shah, professor Javed, Showkat Ahmad Dar, Muhammad Maqbool Taploo , Ghulam Muhammad Dar, Muhammad Hanief and others were present on the occasion. While speaking to the participants of the rally, JKLF leaders said that India and its stooges have choked every little space for peaceful political activities. Political dissent and raising voice against oppression, tyranny and torture have been banned.

In Kashmir during 2008 and 2010 when people of Kashmiris transformed their struggle from violent to non violent, hundreds of young Kashmiris fell to the bullets of trigger happy Indians, thousands of young boys and youth were arrested and tortured and from then they along with their families are being humiliated on daily basis.

Speakers said that this oppression is pushing young Kashmiris to the wall and hence promoting worst kind of violence. Speakers said that this Indian oppression is responsible for the killings of our young buds and today because of this undemocratic and oppressive behavior we are receiving the corpses of our brilliant minds. While paying tributes to recently martyred Kashmiri youth Shaheed Ishaaq Ahmad Parray, Shaheed Asif Ahmad Mir and Shaheed Ashiq Hussain of Tral area, speakers said that these young boys are laying their lives for a just cause and we salute their sacrifices.

Speakers said that Indian rulers in their pursuit to suppress voices rising in support of Kashmir in Indian states have started intimidating people and charging them with black laws.

Today professor SAR Geealni and many students of JNU are in jails under concocted allegations and rulers and their authorities are trying everything possible to prolong their detention. Speakers said that SAR Geelani is a known social, human rights activist and has been raising his voice for political prisoners, human rights of Kashmiris and other human issues.

Speakers said that arresting SAR Geelani like people on concocted charges and putting them behind bar is condemnable and irony is that no one is today raising voice against Professor Geealni’s incarceration. Speakers said that Kashmiris will keep protesting against this ban on freedom of speech and thought, against incarceration of Professor Geelani and intimidating Kashmiris especially students studying in India.

On the occasion people chanted slogans against arresting Professor SAR Geelani and others and threatening Kashmiris living in India.

A Memo Report Presented By JKLF UK to IHC London.

A Memo Report Presented By JKLF UK to IHC London.

To
Date: 11 February, 2016
His Excellency,  Mr. Navtej Sarna
High Commissioner of India
India House, London

Dear High Commissioner

We are demonstrating here today to express our  deep concerns over the continued human rights violations in Jammu Kashmir along with the denial of  internationally pledged right of self-determination to the people of  forcibly divided Jammu-Kashmir. In particular, we are concerned that your government has introduced draconian laws in Jammu Kashmir to suppress freedom of expression and our democratic right to protest against and oppose these laws. We are concerned that the chairman of JKLF, Yasin Malik, along with many other Kashmiri leader are routinely arrested and imprisoned without any charge and their right to movement and public gathering is curtailed by the use of heavy police or military personnel.
We are here to protest against the forced disappearance and  false imprisonment of thousands of Kashmiri youth, many of whom have been ordered to be released by courts but the puppet state government has failed to comply with court orders.

We would also like to draw the world attention to a case of repatriation of mortal remains of the Kashmiri independence leader, Maqbool Butt, who wrongfully executed by Indian government 31 years ago on 11th February 1984, despite international pleas for clemency, and buried inside Tihar jail, without allowing his immediate family to claim his body.

11 February is marked as a Black Day in Kashmir every year and thousands of Kashmiris take out processions and protest rallies to mark his death anniversary, including UK Kashmiris who are once again protesting and demanding the return of his mortal remains for a proper burial in Kashmir.

Last year we presented to your office a signed petition by over 6 dozen members of the  UK and European Parliament including,  members of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Kashmir, supporting the call for return of Maqbool Butt’s mortal remains to his family but we have had no response from your government so far.

We enclose a copy of the signed petition again for your perusal with the hope that you will not ignore our plea on this occasion.

Yours sincerely ;

Sabir Gull
President,  Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front  (UK)

Jammu Kashmir Conflict- Conflicting Perspectives BY Prof Zafar Khan

Jammu Kashmir Conflict- Conflicting Perspectives BY Prof Zafar Khan

Below is the text of the paper presented by Prof Zafar Khan during a Seminar on Kashmir Issue held at Kings College London entitled  “Jammu Kashmir Conflict- Conflicting Perspectives” on 18 Feb 2016

*By Zafar Khan

Chairman:

Dr Dibyesh Anand, I wish to extend my thanks to you and the organisers of this seminar entitled: Jammu Kashmir Conflict: Conflicting Perspectives.

Right at the outset we must acknowledge that the biggest danger to peace between India and Pakistan and the wider region, is the unresolved issue of Jammu Kashmir and its future political status.

Currently Jammu Kashmir-generally referred to as Kashmir, has a huge military presence on both sides of the Line of Control-LoC- that forcibly divides it between India and Pakistan.

India has its Norther Military Command situated in Kashmir, comprising of at least three corps of the Indian army. This huge military force is supported by thousands of paramilitary battalions that make a combined force well in excess of half a million personnel.

What is most disturbing however is the impunity with which these Indian military and para military forces operate against civilians, and have done so since 1988.
Chairman, I do not want to dwell  on this most saturated of military deployments anywhere in the world, and its impact on normal human activity in Kashmir, suffice to say that the mere presence of the military in such huge numbers in itself, is a major impediment to peace and normal human social and political interaction. While this is true both in the rural and urban areas within Indian held Jammu Kashmir, it is also the reality across both sides of the Line of Control.

Without intending to appear ill-intentioned to one or the other side Chairman, it is certainly compelling to conclude that the sheer presence of hundreds of thousands of soldiers, deployed eye-ball to eye ball by two powerful nuclear states, across the LoC, cannot be a conducive factor for a peaceful future. Peace will not appear in Kashmir one day simply because we the Kashmiris desire it, and desire we do!
With your indulgence Chairman, I would like to remind the audience that for over twenty years now, pro freedom Kashmiri leadership adopted a peaceful and non-violent struggle for self-determination and reunification of Kashmir.

The Indian government however, remains as intransigent as ever, and confines pro freedom and reunification leadership either in custody or under house arrest. Mr Yasin Malik the Chairman of  Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front-JKLF- for example over the past few months        alone, has been beaten up, put under arrest dozens of times and prevented from political  and social interaction with the people. Indian authorities use military and paramilitary forces as well as the local police to prevent him from exercising his fundamental democratic right of free expression and assembly. Even as I speak Mr Yasin Malik is hospitalised while under custody.
Chairman, Kashmir must not be seen as a territorial dispute between India and Pakistan nor must it be considered as a domestic matter of India as so often Indian governments claim. As we know, the genesis of Kashmir dispute, begins at least at the international level, with India taking the matter to the United Nations Security Council on 1 January 1948.

Not only did the UN pass many resolutions on the Kashmir issue, its UN Military Observer Group on India and Pakistan-UNMOGIP- personnel are operational in the territory under resolution 47 of April 1948.

Solemn commitments were made and pledges were given by India and supported by the US, UK and other major powers, so that the dispute over the Kashmir issue could be resolved in accordance with the wishes of the people.

Chairman, I am conscious of the time and will therefore not go in to details of the Kashmir conflict, and how for 68 years India and Pakistan have utterly failed to resolve it.

Who can begrudge the 20 million Kashmiris therefore, for feeling betrayed, at the indifference and abandonment of their basic human right- the right to national self-determination and the right to reunification- a right that not only India but all major powers recognised.

India for example in one of its many solemn pledges on Kashmir declared:
“that the question of Kashmir’s future status vis-a-vis its neighbours and the world at large and the question on whether Kashmir should withdraw from her accession to India, and either accede to Pakistan or remain independent with a right to claim admission as a member of the United Nations all this we have recognised to be a matter for unfettered decision by the people of Kashmir after normal life is restored to them” UNSC document Agenda 227.

Unfortunately Chairman, India has completely and blatantly reneged on the above and many other commitments, and has consistently prevaricated over its bilateral Shimla Accord of 1972 with Pakistan, in which both countries agreed to resolve the conflict in accordance with the wishes of the people.

Chairman without a shadow of doubt peace is the only option for Kashmir, and Kashmiris are ready to play their part in the process. Unfortunately it seems that Kashmiris do not have partners to engage with for a just and peaceful solution of the future political status of their country. In fact the pro freedom leadership would want Kashmir to be the common ground for peace making in the region.

Kashmir therefore in our view, must become a bridge of friendship and lasting prosperity for India, Pakistan, the 20 million inhabitants of Kashmir, and the whole region of south, south west and central Asia.

Chairman, peace-making is a serious process, and as such cannot be instituted by a single entity or by India and Pakistan whose hostility against each other is embedded in their history. However they must recognise the futility of perpetual conflict and uncertainty in the region. Over the past four decades we have seen what has become of the Shimla Accord, let alone the many UN resolutions and the promised plebiscite on the future status of the forcibly divided Jammu Kashmir state.

Chairman, India and Pakistan seemingly have decided to resume their bilateral interaction with the unexpected stop-over in Lahore by Mr Modi to meet Mr Nawaz Sharif, in December 2015. Pathankot incident however, appears to have jeopardised the intended course of interaction that the two countries may have envisaged in their “Compressive Dialogue” process.

While any rapprochement between India and Pakistan is a step in the right direction, we do however have strong reservations if Kashmir and Kashmiris are not included in such a dialogue process. This quite clearly appears to be the case in our view, in the proposed dialogue process between the two countries. Inevitably therefore we will not support an Indo- Pak dialogue process that excludes Kashmir and Kashmiris.
In conclusion Chairman, an opportunity has arisen for both Mr Modi and Mr Nawaz Sharif, to secure an historic peace deal for our time and all times to come.  Future prosperity and wellbeing of 1.5 billion people of the sub-continent depends on just such a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir conflict. A resolution that enables 20 million Kashmiris to exercise their unfettered, democratic right of self-determination. In order to secure a lasting peace in the region, both countries must allow participation and representation of pro azadi and anti-status quo Kashmiri leadership in the dialogue process.

Seminar on Kashmir Issue held at Kings College London entitled:
 “Jammu Kashmir Conflict- Conflicting Perspectives”.

18-February 2016

Chairman:

Mr Yasin Malik the

Chairman of  Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front-JKLF- for example over the past few months  alone, has been beaten up, put under arrest dozens of times and prevented from political  and social interaction with the people.

Kashmir therefore in our view, must become a bridge of friendship and lasting prosperity for India, Pakistan, the 20 million inhabitants of Kashmir, and the whole region of south, south west and central Asia.Chairman, peace-making is a serious process, and as such cannot be instituted by a single entity or by India and Pakistan whose hostility against each other is embedded in their history.

Letter to Pakistan High Commission by JKLF diplomatic Committee

His Excellency Syed Ibne Abbas
Pakistan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
34-36 Lowndes Square
 London SW1X 9NJ
18 January 2016

Subject: To seek an urgent meeting with H.E Pakistan High Commissioner in the UK, on Pakistan government’s intention to change status of  Gilgit Baltistan by making the region a province of Pakistan.

Dear Excellency, an All Party Conference-APC- of Kashmiri leaders was convened in Luton on 15 January 2016, to address the serious implications of Gilgit Baltistan’s integration into the Federation of Pakistan. It was resolved by the APC that a delegation of Kashmiri leaders should meet with your Excellency to convey the concerns of the leadership to the government of Pakistan.

The APC resolved that Gilgit Baltistan was an indivisible, historic and constitutional part of Jammu Kashmir, and as such change of its status will not be acceptable.

The APC resolved that, integration of Gilgit Baltistan into the Federation of Pakistan, will be a violation of the constitution of Pakistan and a clear contravention of all the UN resolutions on the Kashmir dispute….. The APC resolved that until the final resolution of the Kashmir dispute, the following course of action should be adopted as an interim solution:

a)      Either Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir-AJK- are merged together to form a national government of the two regions of Pakistan administered Kashmir:

b)     Or Gilgit Baltistan is allowed to form similar political structures of government and governance as currently exist in AJK.

The APC further resolved that Gilgit Baltistan and AJK must be allowed to control all their natural and economic resources.

The APC has deputed me to request for an earliest possible date for the delegation to meet with you, on this pressing national matter. Your Excellency’s kind and favourable consideration will be greatly appreciated.

Yours Sincerely
 Professor Zafar Khan

Making Gilgit Baltistan as Province of Pakistan will have serious consequences on the issue of Jammu Kashmir dispute

Making Gilgit Baltistan as Province of Pakistan will have serious consequences on the issue of Jammu Kashmir dispute

(London, 14 January 2016)

London branch of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front  (JKLF) has condemned the move by the Pakistani authorities to make Gilgit Baltistan as a constitutional province of Pakistan.

In a statement issued after the meeting of JKLF London Branch, it said that making Gilgit Baltistan as constitutional province of Pakistan will have serious consequences on the long standing issue of Jammu Kashmir dispute. Statement said that such move by Pakistan has no legal, political, official or moral justification whatsoever. By taking this illegal and unjust step, Kashmiris are being forced to consider Pakistan in par with India.

JKLF and people of Kashmir will strongly oppose and resist conspiracies   against the sacred cause of freedom and the fundamental rights of the people from all parts of forcibly divided state of Jammu Kashmir of which Gilgit-Baltistan is an integral part till the end.
The meeting was attended by President of JKLF London Branch Sanawar Hussain, General Secretary Mahmood Faiz, Mahmood Hussain, Javaid Rashid, Tariq Sharif, Nazakat Ali, Iftikhar Sharif, Usman Sharif and other office bearers of JKLF London branch.

JKLF Press Conferene in London

JKLF Press Conferene in London

Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front’s statement issued to press and media at its London Secretariat on the arrest and judicial remand of JKLF Chairman Mr Yasin Malik along with his senior colleagues, under section 307 of the IPC, in Indian occupied Jammu Kashmir.
London, 31 December 2015:
1: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front-JKLF- strongly condemns the arrests and charges of ‘attempt to murder and waging of war against the Indian state,’ on its Chairman Mr Yasin Malik and other senior JKLF leaders. Mr Malik along with his colleagues was remanded in judicial custody for 10 days and shifted to Srinagar central jail on 27 December 2015.
We demand an immediate release  of  Mr Yasin Malik and his colleagues who include, Vice Chairman Mr Shaukat Ahmed Bakhshi, Zonal President  Mr Noor Muhammad Kalwal, Zonal General Secretary Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Zonal organiser Mr Bashir Kashmiri, Mr Ghulam Muhammad Dar, Mr Nazir Ahmed Rather, Mr Ashraf Hussain and Mr Munib Javid Khan. We demand that all charges are dropped against the JKLF leaders.
2: Mr Malik and his colleagues were initially arrested on 25 December 2015 when the JKLF Chairman was leading a peaceful protest demonstration against the violence and terror perpetrated by the ‘Village Defence Committee. The VDC specifically operate in the Jammu province in the Muslim populated areas. JKLF has taken a strong position against the anti-people activities, violence and terrorism of the VDC.
3: During the JKLF protest rally on 25 December 2015, police resorted to heavy handed force by using pepper guns and tear gas on peaceful demonstration. The police also targeted hundreds of worshippers at Friday prayers in the nearby two large mosques- the Jamia ahle-hadis and the haji mosque- injuring many people.
4: The VDC enjoy full support and patronage of the Indian government and the military as part of the ‘civil defence force’. Since 1995 the VDC have committed thousands of violent acts, rapes and lootings in the Jammu province.
5: This state supported terrorist set up has over 2,000 FIRs lodged against it over the past twenty years, and not a single case has been investigated by the Indian state and its local quislings against this so called civil defence force.
6: The VDC with RSS connections operate in all the districts of Jammu with substantial Muslim population, and commit acts of murder and arson in these areas with impunity. They have committed acts of violence against drivers with fatal results and set their vehicles on fire over the past few months.
7: They killed a mother and her small son in the Budal area of Rajauri district, and continue to harass families in the region. The 25 December 2015 rally led by Mr Malik was taken out specifically against the mother and son murder in Budal.
8: The terror of hired VCD killers and terrorists is, over and above the unabated violence perpetrated by 700,000 Indian military and para military forces deployed in Kashmir. This unprecedented militarisation of the territory by India, has resulted in tens of thousands of civilian deaths since 1988. Thousands of people are missing. There are hundreds of unmarked graves all over Indian occupied Kashmir of victims of extra judicial killings and faked encounters.
9:  There are over 7,000 unmarked mass graves and over 8,000 disappeared persons in Kashmir today. The association of Parents of Disappeared Persons –APDP- continues to demand answers about their loved ones who were picked up by the occupation authorities and have since vanished from the face of the earth!
The International Peoples Tribunal on Human rights and Justice in Kashmir-IPTK- in its 2009 report entitled “Buried Evidence” accounted for almost 3,000 bodies in 2,700 graves, just in the districts of Badndipura, Baramulla and Kupwara alone.
10: This long and continuing pain and agony of Kashmiri people is a consequence of Indian occupation. JKLF Chairman has exposed the reality of the brute face of military occupation and the ugly face of Indian democracy in Kashmir
11: The trumped up charges slapped on Mr Malik and his 8 colleagues are not a coincidence. They are part of India’s vindictive and malicious actions, to malign the peaceful, popular and democratic freedom struggle and deny the JKLF, political space and engagement with Kashmiri masses.
12: These concocted charges are preposterous, and are part of a deliberate and pernicious strategy of the Indian occupation apparatus and its quislings in Kashmir, to silence Mr Yasin Malik who is a towering figure, for the pro freedom and anti-status quo political struggle in Jammu Kashmir.
13: In the light of current rapprochement between India and Pakistan, the nature of these charges against the JKLF leadership, is a clear indication that the Will of Kashmiri people and their sentiment, has no place in bilateral framework of proposed Indo- Pak “Bilateral Comprehensive Dialogue” process.
14: We unambiguously and unequivocally, make it clear that Kashmiris will not accept Indo- Pak bilateralism over the future status of their country, as it is not a territorial dispute between India and Pakistan.
15: The future political status of Jammu Kashmir is an internationally recognised issue, whose political and constitutional status can only be decided through an unfettered democratic decision by twenty million Kashmiris as they are the main affected party in the dispute.
16: It is quite ironic therefore that the charge of ‘waging war against the Indian state’ has been levelled against Mr Yasin Malik. In reality however it is the Indian state that continues to wage war on the people of Jammu Kashmir.
17: Mr Malik on the other hand has struggled for the rights, aspirations and dignity of his people through peaceful means.
18:  Mr Malik renounced all forms of violence in the Kashmiris’ struggle for self-determination more than twenty years ago. Therefore no amount of state harassment and oppression will deter the JKLF leadership from representing the genuine sentiments for freedom, dignity and the exercise of the unfettered democratic Will of Kashmiris, across both sides of the Line of Control-LoC-.
19: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front will mount a vigorous and concerted campaign at political and democratic level throughout the world to expose the oppression and brutality of the Indian occupation in Jammu Kashmir and the repressive and draconian methods with which the JKLF and its leadership has been subjected to over the years, and in particular the current incarceration of Mr Yasin Malik and his colleagues under section 307 of the IPC
20: Throughout the world JKLF local organisations and branches have been informed and asked to undertake appropriate and suitable political and diplomatic campaigns and high light the nefarious actions being taken by the Indian government through its quisling administration Kashmir.
21:  In the UK where around a million Kashmiris reside, and who are quite well  embedded within the British political system,  British Chapter of the JKLF has been asked to mount a concerted incremental political campaign, and also assist and   contribute towards diplomatic efforts for an immediate release of the JKLF leadership. Similarly Europe and North America based organisation will engage with the local political and diplomatic fraternity, and press and media to gain support for the immediate release of Mr Malik and his colleagues.
22: The nature and method of campaigning will be decided by branches and the zonal organisations based on their situation and circumstances both in the United Kingdom and elsewhere. Paramount objective however, will be to ensure that no one misjudges or misreads the determination and the desire of 20 million Kashmiris for freedom, and to assert their absolute right to decide on the political and constitutional status and reunification of their country-Jammu Kashmir- peacefully.

London (29 December 2015)
JKLF will hold an important press conference at its London Secretariat on Thursday 31st December 2015 at 12 noon.
The address of the secretariat is
JKLF Diplomatic Bureau
119-123 Cannon Street Road,
Basement North
London
E1 2LX
The press conference has been called by the JKLF’s Diplomatic Bureau and will be addressed by its Chairman Professor Zafar Khan along with leaders of the JKLF’s British Chapter.
The press conference has been called to protest at the arrests in Indian occupied Jammu Kashmir of JKLF’s Chairman Mr Yasin Malik and other senior JKLF leaders on trumped up charges of attempt to murder and waging war against the Indian state.
On 27th December Mr Malik and other senior JKLF leaders were charged and remanded in judicial custody at the Srinagar central jail for 10 days.
It must be remembered that Mr Malik and his colleagues were peacefully protesting against the terrorism of the so-called state sponsored Village Defence Committees-VDCs that have unleashed a reign of terror against the  Muslim population in general and  pro freedom activists in particular, in the Jammu province. The VDC’s current terror tactics included the murder of a mother and her son in the Budhal area of the Jammu region.
At the press conference JKLF will call on its members to mount a suitably effective political and diplomatic response against the inhuman and undemocratic arrests and oppressive methods meted out to the JKLF and its leaders by the Indian occupation authorities in Indian occupied Jammu Kashmir.
Members of the Press and media are therefore cordially invited to attend this important press conference.

Thanking you in anticipation.
For and on behalf of the JKLF
Diplomatic Bureau
