Press Conference by JKLF at JKLF international Secretariat office, London

Following is a transcript of JKLF press conference, held in London on 27th September 2016.

Ladies and gentlemen you will be aware that while world media attention has been focused on Syria and elsewhere, India’s onslaught on Kashmiri civilians has reached all heights. Today is the 81st day of continuous curfew and killings in Kashmir valley and parts of Jammu region, restricting freedom of movement and freedom of speech by use of brutal and lethal force against unarmed civilians who refuse to accept Indian rule in Kashmir.
  • Since 8th July, 82 civilian protestors, including women and children, have been killed in indiscriminate firing by occupation forces.  Unprecedented use of untested pellet guns continues even today despite promises to abandon them.  The Indian manufacturer of these pellet guns has reportedly said that these guns were never tested for human use. They are primarily meant for animal hunting but the Mufti lead puppet state regime has done nothing to protect their own people. Hospitals in IOK are overfilled with 18000 injured, most of them are teenagers. Minimum cost for their treatment is estimated to be 2-3 lakh rupees each. Doctors have said that over 300 will never be able to see again.  You will recall that in the 2014 Intifada  102 civilians were massacred but no one has ever been taken to task to face any kind of justice because Indian ‘security forces’ enjoy special immunity against prosecution in J&K under the draconian AFSPA law since 1990.
  • While Indian Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, was using words like “insaniyat and jamhooriat” he secretly authorized increase of armed personnel to be deployed in the villages and re-activated Special Task Force which was previously used to harass and arrest pro-independence activists.  It has also come to light that relatives of the local puppet regime lead by Mahbooba Mufti were sent to pellet victims’ homes and hospitals to offer them lakhs of rupees of bribes to speak against the Hurriyat leaders but they found no takers. Since then protests have spread to Jammu’s Kishtwar and Rajouri district. This is not new Intifada. Kashmiris have been in the streets since 1984.
  • Since 8th July, over 6000 Kashmiri students, activist, leaders, lawyers and even health workers, including JKLF chairman Yasin Malik and president Noor Mohammad Kalwal, Bashir Bhat and  Yaseen Bhat have been arrested and are held in most inhuman conditions in prisons without allowing any visits or offering any medical help. Yasin Malik has an acute heart blood-clotting condition but has been refused treatment. We fear for his life. Two weeks ago, Khuram Pervez, a human rights lawyer who was scheduled to visit UNHCR, was arrested at Delhi airport, barring him from leaving the country. You may be aware that India has refused UNHCR fact finding access to Jammu-Kashmir which clearly means that they have a lot to hide. Yasin Malik was taken into custody because of his role in getting the two Hurriyat factions together and Khuram Pervez is in jail because he has collected credible evidence and testimonies from victims of  Indian ‘insaniyat and jamhooriat’.

  • It's been 32 years since a leader of the Kashmir independence movement, Maqbool Butt Shaheed, was hanged in Tihar jail. His dead body still remains a prisoner in Tihar. Last year 60 members of the UK and European parliament sent a joint letter to India’s President, Parnab Mukarjee, asking him to authorize the release of Maqbool Butt remains to his family. There has been no response from Modi’s India.
  • The issue of mass graves, where some 7000 unmarked graves were discovered in North Kashmir 10 years ago, remains unresolved despite efforts of the human rights commission and Srinagar High Court ordering the government to exhume the bodies and undertake identification and proper burial process.

  • While we have reservations regarding Pakistan’s diplomatic offensive in support of our movement for self-determination we welcome Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif’s genuine offer to the world for ‘demilitarization’ of Jammu-Kashmir  at the UNGA last week, including the call for UN lead investigatory mission,  and we hope that  he is including AJK and GB areas under Pakistani control in this offer.
  • Yesterday, India’s foreign secretary Sushma Sawraj, stood at the same podium and made a mockery of his offer and shamelessly defied everything that this august body stands for, including mocking of the historic UN Security resolutions, which both India and Pakistan accepted, that do not recognize the J&K   to be part of any country.
We are concerned that the  international community, including UK, Europe and USA is less interested in using its  influence to persuade India to come to an amicable solution through dialogue and more interested in selling military hardware to India (and Pakistan), despite the fact  that  the two countries have fought 3 wars and if ‘Kashmir issue’ remains unresolved a 4th war in inevitable,
Large Kashmiri Diaspora in the UK and Europe and a number of MPs and MEPs have expressed concerns that if the UN and influential world leaders remain silent on this fundamental issue of self-determination and its brutal suppression by India, grave human rights violations will increase and with daunting prospect of war-crimes and genocide against Kashmiri civilian protestors who are not  prepared to compromise with India come what may.
  • We demand to be spoken verbally prepare list of demands.
  • We are going to  speak of  steps to be taken in terms of worldwide political and diplomatic offensive in favour of full complete independence ...etc

Indian pellet terrorism has again exposed the real face of brutality and inhumanness

Indian pellet terrorism has again exposed the real face of brutality and inhumanness

Srinagar 06th Sep: Cold blooded murder of another young Kashmiri at Seer Hamadan Islamabad by Indian pellet terrorism has again exposed the real face of brutality and inhumanness. This has proved that the proclamation of Indian home minister about stopping the use of pellet guns was only a hoax. The loss of two more young Kashmiris within less than 20 hours is heartbreaking and unbearable. For how long will international community silently watch this murder of humanity in Kashmir?

This was stated by the vice chairman of Jammu Kashmir liberation front (JKLF) advocate Bashir Ahmad Butt while condemning the ongoing spree of death and destruction at the hands of Indian trigger happy forces in Kashmir Valley. Paying rich tributes to Sopore martyr who breathed his last on 5th September 2016 in a Srinagar hospital and young man from seer Hamadan Islamabad who was martyred by pellets today morning, JKLF vice chairman said that hardly after 20 hours of Indian home ministers proclamation on halting pellets in Kashmir, his trigger happy forces gunned down another Kashmiri by same pellets thus proving the proclamation as only a hoax and eye wash to deceive public opinion. Butt Sahib said that before killing this young man in morning at seer Hamadan Indian forces were on rampage during night hours and vandalized scores of houses, vehicles and orchards in the area. He said that Kashmiris are losing their loved ones by bullets, pellets, shells, beatings and tortures and within 60 days we have lost 80 of our young boys, girls and children at the hands of Indian occupational forces but international community resting in deep slumber has failed even to hear the cries , shrieks and wailings of Kashmiris . Butt sahib said that more than 8000 Kashmiris have been injured during last 60 days with more than 600 losing or being at the verge of losing their eyesight but no one seems to care. He said that this criminal and callous approach of the international community merely for safeguarding its trade relations with India is blot on the face of humanity and democracy.

Meanwhile JKLF leaders and activists living outside Indian occupied Jammu Kashmir are holding peaceful protest programs to rouse international community from its deep slumber regarding Kashmir. JKLF vice chairman Salim Haroon who earlier held a 36 hour protest hunger strike in Islamabad Pakistan against atrocities being committed on Kashmiris today completed his 28 hour long token hunger strike in Muzaffarabad Azad Kashmir. JKLF general secretary Europe zone Masood Iqbal along with other leaders’ Chowdhri Mushtaq Deewan and Ashfaq Kumar today staged a three hour long protest sit-in outside United Nations office in Belgium Europe. Scores of Kashmiris holding placards and banners condemning spree of killings in Kashmir and other human rights abuses also participated in this protest sit-in. participants also demanded an immediate release of all  political prisoners including JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik who is languishing in jail from last 60 days now.   A memorandum addressed to UN chief Ban Ki Moon was also handed over to UN representatives urging this world body to intervene and stop human rights abuses in Jammu Kashmir.

Indian leaders were making a mockery of political dialogue on Kashmir

Indian leaders were making a mockery of political dialogue on Kashmir

Srinagar-26 August: JLKF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik on Thursday said that Indian leaders were making a mockery of political dialogue on Kashmir by inviting people to meetings through Twitter.

In a statement, Malik said that only talks between all parties involved in the Jammu and Kashmir dispute can prove fruitful, as dialogue between India and Pakistan, India and Kashmir, and Pakistan and Kashmir have failed to yield any results.

The JKLF chief who is languishing in central jail Srinagar since last month said that Indian home minister’s invitation for talks through Twitter was ridiculous. “Talks are held between two parties on the basis of equality, but here is the Indian home minister acting like a visiting monarch, asking his subjects to reach him and put forth their grievances,” Malik said.

“Bilateral dialogue process has been a futile exercise. That is why people of Jammu and Kashmir want a dialogue between all concerned parties to this dispute. It is our belief that only this kind of dialogue can resolve this dispute and bring lasting peace and prosperity to South Asia,” he said.

Malik said that Kashmiris have always stood for peaceful means of resistance but it is the Indian “occupational forces” and their Kashmiri “stooges” who from 1947 have used their police and military might to suppress peaceful resistance.

“Today, when whole of Kashmir including Rajouri, Poonch, Kishtwar, Baderwah, Doda, Ramban, Banihal and Kargil are asking for freedom, the Indian leadership and their Kashmiri stooges are still in denial and are terming the voices of millions as the voice of some miscreants,” he added.

The JKLF spokesman said in a separate statement that “police and Indian forces are continuing their nocturnal raids, crackdowns, spree of arrests and other oppressive measures against Kashmiris, especially against young boys and students throughout Kashmir.”

He said that police have arrested JKLF district secretary Mushtaq Ahmad of Koreg Ganderbal and raided the residence of JKLF district president Ganderbal, Bashir Ahmad Rather.

Debates in Indian parliament and statements of Indian leaders regarding Jammu Kashmir wretched and a shows colonial mind set of Indians towards Kashmir said Muhammad Yasin Malik

Srinagar -11th August: Debates in Indian parliament and statements of Indian leaders regarding Jammu Kashmir are wretched and a show of the colonial mindset of Indians towards Kashmir. Indian leaders can deceive Indian public opinion by bundle of lies and false propaganda but it cannot change the reality on ground. Who says Indian army is not on ground in Kashmir. It is already deployed to crush people’s movement here.

This was stated by the jailed chairman JKLF Muhammad Yasin Malik while reacting to recent statements by Indian prime minister, Indian home minister and debates in Indian parliament on Kashmir. Terming the Debates in Indian parliament and statements of Indian leaders regarding Jammu Kashmir as wretched and a show of the colonial mindset of Indians towards Kashmir, jailed JKLF chairman said that Indian home minister Rajnath Singh sahibs statement on deployment of Indian army in Jammu Kashmir is absurd and deceitful, He said that Indian army is already  deployed in south and north Kashmir and even in parts of Srinagar outskirts, installed to crush peoples peaceful protest in these areas.

He said that even Indian television channels and newspapers have carried the news of Indian army’s deployment in various areas of Kashmir and among 60 people martyred and 6000 people injured so-far many have been hit by the bullets of Indian army men. He said that Indian prime minster and now his home minister have tried to portray a people’s revolution as sponsored and ‘mischief of some miscreants’ and instead of acknowledging the political nature of Kashmir issue have cited unemployment and underdevelopment as a cause of this uprising.

By issuing these statements, Indian leaders can befool themselves and their people but this callous and state of denial cannot change the reality on ground, asserted Yasin Malik. He said that the reality is that immediately after gaining freedom from British, India snatched the freedom of Jammu Kashmir by military might and from that time people of Jammu Kashmir are resisting the military occupation of India.

If this people’s resistance would have been sponsored or because of less development or unemployment, this could not have survived more than six decades, said Yasin Malik. He said that even in hardest of times Kashmiris have and are generating employment for thousands of Indian workers and artisans in Kashmir and no one has ever died here because of hunger or unemployment. Dubbing the debate on Kashmir in Indian parliament as bogus, JKLF incarcerated chairman said that after killing 60 of our innocents, injuring more than 6000 out of which many have lost their eye sight and vital organs, we are being told that many quintals of ration, enough of gas and kerosene oil are in stock for Jammu Kashmir.

Also fabricated figures of injuries to Indian security forces are being propagated to justify killing and injuring innocents that too in Indian parliament. This shows the apathy of Indians towards Kashmir and Kashmiris and the gravity of this apathy is many a times more to what is being shown today on Indian television channels regarding an accident in SubashNagar Delhi. Yasin Malik said that Kashmir issue is a living reality which needs a resolution and those who are trying to ignore this reality are actually acting like an ostrich which hides its head in a pit and thinks that danger is gone. He hoped that good sense will prevail and Indian leaders and the ignorant international community will understand the importance of resolving this issue in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Jammu Kashmir.

Meanwhile thousands of men, women, youth and children today marched towards martyrs’ graveyard Eidgah as per the program given by joint resistance leadership. This march started from Nawakdal Srinagar and led by JKLF zonal organizer Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri, protesters raised slogans in favor of freedom and martyrs. This peaceful march reached Safakdal Bridge that had been closed down with razor wire and barricades by police and forces. The protesters staged a peaceful sit-in at the bridge. While addressing the protesters JKLF leader Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri said that martyrs are heroes of Kashmiris and every Kashmiri is indebted to these great sons of the soil. He said that by banning peaceful protest march so-called rulers have actually shown that they are worst kind of dictators.

Naming overwhelming majority of Kashmiris asking for Azadi as ‘some misled people’ old ploy of Indian leaders. Denying reality cannot change the reality, Yasin Malik

Faith in Allah almighty, strong unity and unrelenting resistance are the only weapons that will take us to our desired goal said incarcerated JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik

Srinagar 9th August: Naming overwhelming majority of Kashmiris asking for Azadi as ‘misled’ old ploy of Indian leaders. Denying reality cannot change the reality. Faith in Allah almighty, strong unity and unrelenting resistance are the only weapons that will take us to our desired goal. It is the duty of every Kashmiri to remain steadfast against forces of tyranny. This was stated by the jailed chairman of Jammu Kashmir liberation front (JKLF) Muhammad Yasin Malik in a message sent from incarceration toady.

JKLF chairman who is in jail from 8th July 2016, in his message to Kashmiri nation said that unwavering faith in Allah Almighty, strong unity and unrelenting resistance are the tools needed to overcome the forces of oppression and tyranny and these tools will surely take us to our desired goal of free Kashmir. Terming the recent statement of Indian Prime Minister Jenab Nerander Modi as illogical, Yasin Malik said that it has been an old ploy of Indian leaders to deny reality regarding Jammu Kashmir and name millions of Kashmiris who are asking for Azadi as “some misled people”.

This state of denial has and will yield nothing because denying reality never changes the reality, asserted Yasin Malik. He said that the reality is that Kashmiris with one voice are demanding freedom and the only way to resolve this human issue is to accept the reality and find some courage to resolve it according to the wishes, aspirations and sacrifices of the people of Jammu Kashmirs.

Hailing people of Jammu Kashmir for their resolve and sacrifices, JKLF incarcerated chairman said that struggle for freedom asks for sacrifices and this journey is always a long tedious journey but the nations which decide to fight the forces of darkness and oppression tread this thorny path and finally reach to their desired goal. Yasin Malik said that from last 32 days, Kashmir is burning, our 55 innocents have fallen to the bullets of trigger happy Indians, more than 6000 men, women and children are injured among whom hundreds have lost their eyesight and other vital organs .Our houses, vehicles, business establishments are being vandalized by Indian forces, pellets and pepper-gas are being used at will and even women and children are not being spared.

Medical, paramedical staff and ambulances have become primary target of forces. He said that police and forces at the behest of so-called rulers have speeded up callous and undemocratic means like night curfews, nocturnal raids, spree of arrests and other oppressive measures to overpower peoples will. JKLF chairman said that Kashmir is burning, innocent killings, curfew and restrictions continue unabated but instead of putting an end to the atrocities against people and listening to their just voice, Indian leaders and their Kashmiri stooges seem stagnant with their state of denial policy. Appealing Kashmiris to stand united and follow the protest programs given by the united resistance leadership, Yasin Malik said that at a time when oppressors are trying hard to break our unity and resolve we need to shun our petty differences, stand firmly united and resist tyrants with oneness and passion.

He said that Kashmir and Kashmiris are passing through hard times but our history bears a witness to the fact that we as a nation have always endured hardships with unity and zeal. Our passion for brotherhood, philanthropy and social works has always been at high during hard times and everything done in this regard by our youth and elders during past 32 days bear a witness to this fact.

Yasin Malik said that along with the unity on political front, poor nation of Kashmir also needs oneness on social, economic and religious fronts also. Stressing upon the need of forging social unity at the level of Mohallas, localities and Masajid, Yasin Malik said that elders and Ulema related to different Masajid and localities, with the help of others, need to rise above the considerations of creed and color and try to reach out to poor, downtrodden and affected people and help them in these hard days. This will ensure that help reaches to every needy person and family and this also will eradicate chances of deceitful person trying to betray people in the name of social work, added Yasin Malik.

Meanwhile besides JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik who is in Srinagar central jail, JKLF vice chairman Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi, Zonal president Noor Muhammad Kalwal, leader Zahoor Ahmad Butt and block president Kakapora Shabir Ahmad Ganaie remain incarcerated in different Jails and police stations.
