Making Gilgit Baltistan as Province of Pakistan will have serious consequences on the issue of Jammu Kashmir dispute

Making Gilgit Baltistan as Province of Pakistan will have serious consequences on the issue of Jammu Kashmir dispute

(London, 14 January 2016)

London branch of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front  (JKLF) has condemned the move by the Pakistani authorities to make Gilgit Baltistan as a constitutional province of Pakistan.

In a statement issued after the meeting of JKLF London Branch, it said that making Gilgit Baltistan as constitutional province of Pakistan will have serious consequences on the long standing issue of Jammu Kashmir dispute. Statement said that such move by Pakistan has no legal, political, official or moral justification whatsoever. By taking this illegal and unjust step, Kashmiris are being forced to consider Pakistan in par with India.

JKLF and people of Kashmir will strongly oppose and resist conspiracies   against the sacred cause of freedom and the fundamental rights of the people from all parts of forcibly divided state of Jammu Kashmir of which Gilgit-Baltistan is an integral part till the end.
The meeting was attended by President of JKLF London Branch Sanawar Hussain, General Secretary Mahmood Faiz, Mahmood Hussain, Javaid Rashid, Tariq Sharif, Nazakat Ali, Iftikhar Sharif, Usman Sharif and other office bearers of JKLF London branch.

JKLF Press Conferene in London

Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front’s statement issued to press and media at its London Secretariat on the arrest and judicial remand of JKLF Chairman Mr Yasin Malik along with his senior colleagues, under section 307 of the IPC, in Indian occupied Jammu Kashmir.
London, 31 December 2015:
1: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front-JKLF- strongly condemns the arrests and charges of ‘attempt to murder and waging of war against the Indian state,’ on its Chairman Mr Yasin Malik and other senior JKLF leaders. Mr Malik along with his colleagues was remanded in judicial custody for 10 days and shifted to Srinagar central jail on 27 December 2015.
We demand an immediate release  of  Mr Yasin Malik and his colleagues who include, Vice Chairman Mr Shaukat Ahmed Bakhshi, Zonal President  Mr Noor Muhammad Kalwal, Zonal General Secretary Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Zonal organiser Mr Bashir Kashmiri, Mr Ghulam Muhammad Dar, Mr Nazir Ahmed Rather, Mr Ashraf Hussain and Mr Munib Javid Khan. We demand that all charges are dropped against the JKLF leaders.
2: Mr Malik and his colleagues were initially arrested on 25 December 2015 when the JKLF Chairman was leading a peaceful protest demonstration against the violence and terror perpetrated by the ‘Village Defence Committee. The VDC specifically operate in the Jammu province in the Muslim populated areas. JKLF has taken a strong position against the anti-people activities, violence and terrorism of the VDC.
3: During the JKLF protest rally on 25 December 2015, police resorted to heavy handed force by using pepper guns and tear gas on peaceful demonstration. The police also targeted hundreds of worshippers at Friday prayers in the nearby two large mosques- the Jamia ahle-hadis and the haji mosque- injuring many people.
4: The VDC enjoy full support and patronage of the Indian government and the military as part of the ‘civil defence force’. Since 1995 the VDC have committed thousands of violent acts, rapes and lootings in the Jammu province.
5: This state supported terrorist set up has over 2,000 FIRs lodged against it over the past twenty years, and not a single case has been investigated by the Indian state and its local quislings against this so called civil defence force.
6: The VDC with RSS connections operate in all the districts of Jammu with substantial Muslim population, and commit acts of murder and arson in these areas with impunity. They have committed acts of violence against drivers with fatal results and set their vehicles on fire over the past few months.
7: They killed a mother and her small son in the Budal area of Rajauri district, and continue to harass families in the region. The 25 December 2015 rally led by Mr Malik was taken out specifically against the mother and son murder in Budal.
8: The terror of hired VCD killers and terrorists is, over and above the unabated violence perpetrated by 700,000 Indian military and para military forces deployed in Kashmir. This unprecedented militarisation of the territory by India, has resulted in tens of thousands of civilian deaths since 1988. Thousands of people are missing. There are hundreds of unmarked graves all over Indian occupied Kashmir of victims of extra judicial killings and faked encounters.
9:  There are over 7,000 unmarked mass graves and over 8,000 disappeared persons in Kashmir today. The association of Parents of Disappeared Persons –APDP- continues to demand answers about their loved ones who were picked up by the occupation authorities and have since vanished from the face of the earth!
The International Peoples Tribunal on Human rights and Justice in Kashmir-IPTK- in its 2009 report entitled “Buried Evidence” accounted for almost 3,000 bodies in 2,700 graves, just in the districts of Badndipura, Baramulla and Kupwara alone.
10: This long and continuing pain and agony of Kashmiri people is a consequence of Indian occupation. JKLF Chairman has exposed the reality of the brute face of military occupation and the ugly face of Indian democracy in Kashmir
11: The trumped up charges slapped on Mr Malik and his 8 colleagues are not a coincidence. They are part of India’s vindictive and malicious actions, to malign the peaceful, popular and democratic freedom struggle and deny the JKLF, political space and engagement with Kashmiri masses.
12: These concocted charges are preposterous, and are part of a deliberate and pernicious strategy of the Indian occupation apparatus and its quislings in Kashmir, to silence Mr Yasin Malik who is a towering figure, for the pro freedom and anti-status quo political struggle in Jammu Kashmir.
13: In the light of current rapprochement between India and Pakistan, the nature of these charges against the JKLF leadership, is a clear indication that the Will of Kashmiri people and their sentiment, has no place in bilateral framework of proposed Indo- Pak “Bilateral Comprehensive Dialogue” process.
14: We unambiguously and unequivocally, make it clear that Kashmiris will not accept Indo- Pak bilateralism over the future status of their country, as it is not a territorial dispute between India and Pakistan.
15: The future political status of Jammu Kashmir is an internationally recognised issue, whose political and constitutional status can only be decided through an unfettered democratic decision by twenty million Kashmiris as they are the main affected party in the dispute.
16: It is quite ironic therefore that the charge of ‘waging war against the Indian state’ has been levelled against Mr Yasin Malik. In reality however it is the Indian state that continues to wage war on the people of Jammu Kashmir.
17: Mr Malik on the other hand has struggled for the rights, aspirations and dignity of his people through peaceful means.
18:  Mr Malik renounced all forms of violence in the Kashmiris’ struggle for self-determination more than twenty years ago. Therefore no amount of state harassment and oppression will deter the JKLF leadership from representing the genuine sentiments for freedom, dignity and the exercise of the unfettered democratic Will of Kashmiris, across both sides of the Line of Control-LoC-.
19: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front will mount a vigorous and concerted campaign at political and democratic level throughout the world to expose the oppression and brutality of the Indian occupation in Jammu Kashmir and the repressive and draconian methods with which the JKLF and its leadership has been subjected to over the years, and in particular the current incarceration of Mr Yasin Malik and his colleagues under section 307 of the IPC
20: Throughout the world JKLF local organisations and branches have been informed and asked to undertake appropriate and suitable political and diplomatic campaigns and high light the nefarious actions being taken by the Indian government through its quisling administration Kashmir.
21:  In the UK where around a million Kashmiris reside, and who are quite well  embedded within the British political system,  British Chapter of the JKLF has been asked to mount a concerted incremental political campaign, and also assist and   contribute towards diplomatic efforts for an immediate release of the JKLF leadership. Similarly Europe and North America based organisation will engage with the local political and diplomatic fraternity, and press and media to gain support for the immediate release of Mr Malik and his colleagues.
22: The nature and method of campaigning will be decided by branches and the zonal organisations based on their situation and circumstances both in the United Kingdom and elsewhere. Paramount objective however, will be to ensure that no one misjudges or misreads the determination and the desire of 20 million Kashmiris for freedom, and to assert their absolute right to decide on the political and constitutional status and reunification of their country-Jammu Kashmir- peacefully.

London (29 December 2015)
JKLF will hold an important press conference at its London Secretariat on Thursday 31st December 2015 at 12 noon.
The address of the secretariat is
JKLF Diplomatic Bureau
119-123 Cannon Street Road,
Basement North
London
E1 2LX
The press conference has been called by the JKLF’s Diplomatic Bureau and will be addressed by its Chairman Professor Zafar Khan along with leaders of the JKLF’s British Chapter.
The press conference has been called to protest at the arrests in Indian occupied Jammu Kashmir of JKLF’s Chairman Mr Yasin Malik and other senior JKLF leaders on trumped up charges of attempt to murder and waging war against the Indian state.
On 27th December Mr Malik and other senior JKLF leaders were charged and remanded in judicial custody at the Srinagar central jail for 10 days.
It must be remembered that Mr Malik and his colleagues were peacefully protesting against the terrorism of the so-called state sponsored Village Defence Committees-VDCs that have unleashed a reign of terror against the  Muslim population in general and  pro freedom activists in particular, in the Jammu province. The VDC’s current terror tactics included the murder of a mother and her son in the Budhal area of the Jammu region.
At the press conference JKLF will call on its members to mount a suitably effective political and diplomatic response against the inhuman and undemocratic arrests and oppressive methods meted out to the JKLF and its leaders by the Indian occupation authorities in Indian occupied Jammu Kashmir.
Members of the Press and media are therefore cordially invited to attend this important press conference.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Diplomatic Bureau

World Silence on Kashmir -- Letter for Publication

World Silence on Kashmir -- Letter for Publication

UN Human rights day was observed on December 10. Once again seminars and lectures were delivered on this issue, articles appeared in the media, highlighting the importance of human rights.
We read and hear of this year after year, and it is stressed that no-one should be denied basic human rights in any circumstances.

Western nations always advocate the importance of human rights and express their displeasure against regimes who violate these rights.

But, they keep quiet as far as the human rights are concerned in Kashmir?

The Kashmir people are not only deprived of their basic human rights, but are mercilessly annihilated. The laws are imposed depriving people of every basic human rights. People including women and children, are shot at, killed and houses searched without warrant. The army has been given unlimited power, and are free of any kind of persecution.

Amnesty international in its report confirmed thousands of un-marked graves.

The international community knows and understands everything, but is keeping criminally silent, only because of its trade economic ties.

The state- sponsored systemic killings is fully operational in Kashmir. The only crime of the poor defenseless is that they are asking for their right of self-determination. A right which was recognized by both India, Pakistan and International community, including United Nations.

It is high time that the people of the world use their voice against this injustice and against the violation of the sanctity of human rights.

Statement by JKLF on the Indian Foreign Minister’s meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad

Statement by JKLF on the Indian Foreign Minister’s meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad

London- 9 December 2015:

The Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front-JKLF- has given a cautious welcome to the  meeting in Islamabad today between the Indian foreign minister Mrs Sushma Sawaj and Prime Minister of Pakistan Mr Nawaz Sharif in a statement issued her in London today.

JKLF’s head of Diplomatic affairs Professor Zafar Khan said that the JKLF cautiously welcomed the meeting at this level between India and Pakistan and, hoped that both countries will engage with each other and with the pro freedom leadership purposefully, to secure a lasting and peaceful resolution of the sixty eight year old dispute.

He reiterated JKLF’s position that Kashmir is not a territorial dispute between India and Pakistan and that both countries owed it to the future peace and prosperity of 1.5 billion people of India, Pakistan and Jammu Kashmir to find a just, democratic and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute, based on the unfettered, inherent and inalienable right to self-determination of 20 million Kashmiris across the LoC and in the Diaspora.

Zafar Khan added that without a shadow of doubt peace is the only option over Kashmir, and Kashmiris are ready to play their part in the process and, needed partners to engage with, for a solution of the future political status of their country. He urged India and Pakistan to seize the opportunity and make a unified and free Kashmir, a bridge of friendship, peace and lasting prosperity for South Asia.

Letter to Pakistani Prime Minister on Gilgit Baltistan by Mr Amanullah Khan‏

Letter to Pakistani Prime Minister on Gilgit Baltistan by Mr Amanullah Khan‏

 To,
Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif,                                                                         Dated: 18-11-2015
Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan,
Islamabad.
1.     Kashmir Issue and some Gilgiti and Balti peoples demands.
Day before yesterday’s daily K2, published from Gilgit, Rawalpindi and Karachi with a large circulation, has quoted minister for Information of Gilgit Baltistan (GB) Mr. Ibrahim Sanaie (repeated yesterday by another Minister Dr. Iqbal) as saying that Mr. Nawaz Sharif, the PM of Pakistan, was keen to grant full political, constitutional, social and economic rights to the people of GB (perhaps meaning merger of GB with Pakistan as one of its provinces).
Mr. Prime Minister, if you follow this idea of merging GB with Pakistan before its final status is determined, it will amount to a big blunder on your part as it will bring Pakistan at par with India in many ways, will rightly annoy a big number of Kashmiris and will also adversely affect the world opinion about the Kashmir issue. It is for these sound reasons that the people and political parties of Azad Kashmir (AK) do not make such demands. Although both AK and GB belong to the same state of Jammu Kashmir. Moreover, there are many other ways of meeting the genuine demands of the people of GB. For example, i) GB and AK be merged in to each other as two equal units, ii) giving similar status to GB as of AK, and iii) giving rights to the people of GB in any legal form but without merging it with Pakistan as it may affect its world recognized disputed nature.
Mr. Prime Minister,  as you perhaps know I myself am a resident of GB and have suffered a lot for demanding due rights for the people of the area. These sufferings include my one and a quarter year’s imprisonment in GB, twice being deported from Gilgit and have also written three booklets on the issue. This was my duty as an educated son of that unfortunate area. However, unlike many others who demand merger of GB with Pakistan for their limited and timely personal and party interests, I and my organization, in the larger interest of Kashmiri nation, oppose this merger before its final disposition is reached upon for my thoughts are not peripheral and self-centered.
2.     The confused type of support to Kashmir freedom struggle.
Mr. Prime Minister, almost all the political parties of Pakistan say that they support our freedom struggle for which we thank them all from the deepest core of our hearts. I have observed you personally saying that you and your party support our Right of Self-determination (RSD) according to UN Resolutions and Kashmiri people’s aspirations. However, the last and effective UN Resolution does not scope for an independent Kashmir thus limiting the options and curbing the aspirations of the people. While as Kashmiries believe in three alternate solutions of Kashmir issue ie, an Independent Kashmir or Kashmir’s accession to Pakistan or Kashmir’s accession to India. However, It will be kind enough of you, your party and other political parties of Pakistan if you people could be magnanimous enough towards Kashmir issue by providing a clear and open stand of yours in favor of Kashmiri aspirations, by not rejecting any aspired option as a solution and by not limiting its options of solution to accession to Pakistan or accession to India only. For being a proud nation, Kashmiri people would want to retain its national identity for all times to come. As President of Pakistan Mr. Asif Ali Zardari too during his meeting with a delegation of Kashmiri leaders, of which I and my colleague Mr. Rafiq Dar were a part of, in President House Islamabad on March 28, 2013, said, and repeated trice, that he considers Kashmiries as a nation. This very statement of President of Pakistan meant a lot for us and other Kashmiri leaders.
3.     My common letter to Your Excellency and to Mr. Modi, Your counterpart in India.
I had sent two common letters earlier dated 27-03-2015 and 10-09-2015 to both of you subjected as A peaceful, practicable, equitable, honorable and everlasting solution of about Seventy years old unresolved Kashmir issue. The issue is as dangerous today as ever, having already caused three bloody wars in the past between India and Pakistan, now both nuclear powers, hence the continued tensions between them makes it more dangerous for even regional and world peace”.
Solution in a nutshell under the caption ‘The Gist of The Appeal’ page 10.
I have so far received responses from some ordinary personalities and none from the people that could be counted especially you the two addresses. Will you please pay some attention to my detailed document that includes a covering letter and common appeal?
The acknowledgement of this letter shall be highly appreciated.
I thank you.
Sincerely yours,

(Amanullah Khan)
Patron-in-Chief,
Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF).
