The Kashmir issue and the Labour Party - Letter to Jeremy Corbyn

Dear Mr Corbyn,

In the first instance I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on becoming leader of the British Labour Party.

You may not recall but I met you in mid 1990s to seek your support  on the Kashmiri peoples's right to self determination and the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue. As I recall Mr Corbyn you  asked me a few probing questions in particular regarding the objectives and ideology of our movement and the nature of reunified and free Jammu Kashmir that we as a liberation movement were seeking to achieve.
In a  meeting that lasted for around 30 minutes  you heard my responses to your questions carefully and with utmost courtesy. You assured me that in principle you would support the Kashmiris's right to self-determination.
We also met  very briefly for the second time when you visited Luton a few years ago where our mutual  friend and your fellow Parliamentarian Mr Kelvin Hopkins MP introduced me to you.
You' ve become  leader of a party whose roots are embedded against exploitation and suffering  of  ordinary people, and a party which was determined to eradicate inequality, exploitation and suffering  for ever.
Your success in becoming the leader of this progressive and people centric political party symbolises  that founding spirit of the Labour Party.
The manner of support within the party to your candidature in my view is the wider reflection of the yearning within the British people for a genuine and realistic change to share the resources of this great country fairly and equitably across society.
I am confident that the momentum and dynamism of the current  spirit in the revitalised Labour Party will  enable  a change of government in 2020 under your leadership.

Mr Corbyn as you are a great supporter of causes against exploitation and oppression at home and abroad,  I am confident that as Leader of the Opposition you and the Labour Party  will not forsake the plight and suffering of 20 million people if Jammu Kashmir and will use every opportunity to seek and support a peaceful, just and a democratic  resolution of the  issue which is the longest unresolved  dispute at the United Nations .And an isdue over which India and Pakistan have fought two full scale wars and continue to confront each other agressive across the Line of Control-LoC- with periodic shootings that result in deaths of Kashmiri civilians as well as soldiers of both countries.
Mr Corbyn as Kashmiris we seek to ensure that Kashmir becomes a bridge of peace rather than a perpetual bone of contention between India and Pakistan.
However  Kashmiris have lost all confidence in the bilateralism of India and Pakistan,   and feel that the  the seemingly intractable situation can only be moved along with the intervention of Britain and other major powers of the world persuading both countries to allow the Kashmiris to decide upon their future status as was recommended by the UNSC  and agreed upon by both India  and Pakistan.
I hope therefore that you, unlike the current British government  and your predecessors in the Labour Party, will feel comfortable in engaging with the South Asian protagonists, in particular with India, that Kashmir primarily is an issue to do with the aspirations and democratic rights of the people of Jammu Kashmir  (usually refered to as Kashmir ), to determine a political  and constitutional status consistent with their inherent and inalienable right of self determination.
As you are a man of the people and as such more accessible, may I take this opportunity to request for a short meeting  with members of the Diplomatic Bureau  to further elaborate on the very brief thoughts that I have had the opportunity to explain, in what is essentially, a Letter to congratulate you on becoming Leader of the Labour Party.
With regards

Prof Zafar Khan

YASIN MALIK VISITS SOPORE…WALKS ON FOOT THROUGH SOPORE LOCALITEIS...JKLF, APHC(G) AND APHC (M ) JIONTLY CALL FOR PROTEST AGAINST SOPORE KILLINGS…
Spree of target killings in Sopore, ill intentions and motives behind these killings and ironical silence of so-called rulers over this is highly condemnable and significant. These kinds of killings are not acceptable to us and today all resistance parties have after mutual consultations decided to resist these kinds of killings and oppressive attacks. JKLF with APHC (G) and APHC (M) has decided to call for a one day protest strike on Wednesday 17th June 2015 while as on Friday 19th June 2015 leaders will jointly lead protest against these killings at Sopore.
This was stated by the chairman JKLF Muhammad Yasin Malik who today led a protest rally and sit-in at Sopore. Yasin Malik who was scheduled to leave for Jammu today in connection with oppression against Jammu Muslims, postponed his visit and left for Sopore where from last few days 4 innocents have been target killed .Yasin Malik was accompanied by JKLF leaders Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri, Showkat Ahmad Dar, Mohammad Amin Maglu and Shakir Ahmad etc. Yasin Malik and others sat on a protest sit-in at main Chowk Sopore and this Sit –in continued for more than two hours. After this Yasin Malik led a procession and travelled on foot through all Sopore localities .people from all walks of life including women in large numbers also joined this procession. Raising slogans in favor of freedom, martyrs and resistance and against spree of killings and other oppressive measures especially in Sopore this procession finally concluded at main Chowk where Yasin Malik addressed the gathering.
In his addresses, Yasin Malik said that spree of target killings in Sopore has started after the Indian defense minister Manohar Parikars statement of fighting terrorism with terrorism. Now this phenomenon is continuing and four innocents have already lost their lives but ironically so- called government led by mufti Sayeed has maintained criminal silence over these killings. Yasin Malik said that this silence is significant and fishy as these rulers even after small militant incidents used to declare people and organization involved immediately but today after many days they have not spoken even a single word which speaks volumes about the motive behind these killings. He said that “Sopore is the fort of Kashmir’s freedom struggle and through these killings some people want to destroy this Fort.  He said that today we are in Sopore and want to convey to the courageous people of Sopore that we will jointly resist this oppression and will not let anybody to destroy our faith and passion.  He said that we have to raise our voice against these targeted killings and that with the killings fear psychosis is being created among the freedom loving people of Sopore which is not acceptable to us. “I have come here to join you and raise voice against the killings. We have to stand up and show that we will not get cowed down by such attacks,” Malik said. JKLF chief said that vicious cycle of death was being unleashed upon the people. “People are being hunted like animals and killed. We cannot watch it silently. We have to resist it,” he told the mourners. Yasin Malik announced that all resistance parties have today joined together and today APHC (G), APHC (M) and JKLF together have decided to resist this spree of killings’ together. After mutual consultations we all have decided to call for a total strike on Wednesday 17th June 2015. We have also decided to jointly protest against this killing spree on Friday 19th June 2015 in Sopore town. This joint protest program will be a show of solidarity with the people of Sopore and we will together protest against these target killings with passion and zeal. Said ,Yasin Malik.

JKLF one day protest against eviction of Jammu Muslims held…Protest attended by people from all walks of life in large numbers…We will spill every drop of our blood for Jammu Muslims // M Yasin Malik
Srinagar, 13th JUNE 2015: Implementation of RSS agenda by mufti Sayeed led government ,  eviction of Jammu Muslims from their homes, discriminatory acts against Muslims and other minorities in Jammu, targeting  Muslims and trying to create fear among them are acts that are can ignite to the extent that nothing will remain safe. These condemnable actions are not acceptable to us. Today we all here with one voice want to convey to our Jammu brethren that Kashmiris are with them in this hour of need and we stand by them against nefarious RSS agenda of evacuating Muslims from Jammu belt that is being processed by present puppet regime of Jammu Kashmir.

This was stated by various speakers while addressing people who attended JKLF one day sit-in and token hunger strike against eviction of Jammu Muslims and creating fear among Muslims living in Jammu and Chenab belt. This protest led by chairman JKLF Muhammad Yasin Malik attended by people from all walks of life in large numbers. Among prominent personalities who addressed participants of today’s protest included noted intellectuals doctor Altaf Hussain, Zareef Ahmad Zareef , columnist Ajaz ul Haq,  civil society  leaders doctor Javed Iqbal, Abdul Majeed Aargar, Shakil Qalandar ,President Bar association Mian Abdul Qayoom, ex-president Bar advocate Nazir Ahmad Ronga, general secretary Bar advocate Muhammad Ashraf Butt, advocate Mir Shafaqat Hussain , President APDP Parveena Ahangar, Imdad Saqi, Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir ,Moulana Reyaz Ahmad Shah, Moulana Ghulam Nabi Shah,  Moulana Ghulam Mohi ud din Naqeeb, Moulana Khurshid Ahmad Qanoongo, moulana showkat ahmad keng, Moulana Bilal Ahmad,Imdad Saqi, Mir Bashir Kenth, Ishfaq Zahgeer, Firdous Ahmad Masoodi,Trade union leaders Mohammad Yasin Khan,Mohammad Sadiq Baqal, Jaan Muhammad Koul,Shafat ahmad Farooqi, Wajahat Ahmad, doctor Zaffar Mehdi, Farooq Nawaz, APHC leaders,  Musadiq Aadil , Shabir Ahmad Dar, Javed Ahmad Mir, Jehangir Gani Butt, Ghulam Nabi Zaki,Mushtaq Ahmad Sodagar,  Abdul Rashiod Untoo, Muhammad Iqbal Mir , professor Bashir Ahmad Dar ,Mushtaq Ahmad wani ( Gousia sarai bala), Fayaz Ahmad Sofi, Zameer Ahmad and Deen Muhammad ,Bilal Ahmad ( Bilal Radio)  and educationist Mehmoodul Hassan Qari etc  .besides this JKLF vice chairman advocate Bashir Ahmad Butt also addressed the gathering.
Speakers on the occasion said that a 1947 like situation is being created in Jammu region by present rulers who have without any shame started implementing RSS agenda of throwing out Muslims from Jammu region and changing demography of Jammu further. Speakers said that in 1947 Muslims constituted 66% of the total population in Jammu but more than three Lakh Muslims were massacred and many more forcefully displaced by Hindu chauvinist forces like RSS with the help of rulers of that time hence changing the demography of Jammu belt. Speakers said that in 1947 Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah criminally remained silent and did nothing to save Muslims of Jammu but today Kashmiri will not remain aloof from Jammu Muslims and will resist every communal and oppressive move against them.
while condemning the discriminatory administrative measures taken by so-called rulers, Speakers said that creating fear among Muslims in entire Jammu especially Chenab area by deploying Hindu officers of RSS choice in place of Muslim officers has proved once again that PDP led by mufti Muhammad Sayeed is only deployed to destroy Jammu Kashmir at the behest Nagpur. Speakers said that Muslim officers are being transferred and Hindu officers of RSS choice are being deployed all over the region and throughout Chenab valley to create fear among Muslims and other minorities. This has actually threatened the minorities especially Muslims living in these areas who are being pushed to wall and hence compelled to migrate. Speakers said that PDP rulers have crossed every limit of Muslim and Kashmir animosity and today Kashmiris need to take unified steps for saving Jammu Muslims from the ill intentions of RSS and its stooges.
Speakers said that so called rulers have started targeting minorities and recent killing of innocent Sikh youth is a glaring example of that. They said that  He said that 1947 is  being repeated  throughout Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kishtwra, Baderwah and Rambhan areas and rulers want to displace Muslims from these areas so that is becomes easy for them to settle down RSS agents and workers from outside state in these areas. Speakers said that there are reports that mufti government through its officers is trying to manipulate data of population to change the demography of these areas so that Muslim majority areas are turned into minority. Speakers  said that according to authentic surveys only 25% recent population is living on lands that have ownership .Rest are on either government lands or forest lands .Hundreds of colonies, government offices and other mighty establishments are on forest lands, besides this military establishments of huge magnitudes are established in jungle areas not only in Jammu but in entire Kashmir and this so-called law is being only applied on poor Muslims who have been living there from decades are being targeted and displaced.  He said that present regime in Jammu Kashmir from the first day is trying to pursue the RSS agenda. Be it state subject issue or settling down refugees or separate colonies for pundits and issuing state subject in schools, policies of Mufti led government are anti Kashmir and anti Muslim but we want to convey them a simple message that they are playing with fire and these measures will have disastrous results and the responsibility of all this would rest with them.

On the occasion chairman JKLF Muhammad Yasin Malik said that today we are here to protest against nefarious designs of so called rulers who by displacing Jammu Muslims are trying to change the demography of Jammu at the behest of RSS. He said that Kashmiris are here assuring their Jammu brethren that we will spill every drop of blood for their safety.  He announced that he will lead a delegation to Jammu on Monday 15th June 2015 where he will meet Muslim representatives and other affected people and chalk out a joint strategy to counter the ill designs of present rulers.
