On \u003Cst1:date year=\"1931\" day=\"13\" month=\"7\"\u003E13th July 1931\u003C\/st1:date\u003E twenty two unarmed peaceful protesters were gunned down by Maharaja Hari Singh’s police out side \u003Cst1:city\u003E\u003Cst1:place\u003ESrinagar\u003C\/st1:place\u003E\u003C\/st1:city\u003E jail while demanding release of Abdul Qadeer, whose only crime was that he dared to condemn the draconian ruler of \u003Cst1:place\u003EKashmir\u003C\/st1:place\u003E, the Dogra Maharaja.  The present phase of the ongoing freedom struggle in \u003Cst1:place\u003EKashmir\u003C\/st1:place\u003E was also begun in July 1988.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp style=\"text-align: justify;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003E\r\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Co:p\u003E\u003C\/o:p\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E  \u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E  \u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cp style=\"text-align: justify;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003EIn this long and protracted struggle for emancipation and freedom, hundreds of thousands of Kashmiris have perished, and been forced to become refugees in their own as well as neighbouring countries since the 1940s.\u003Co:p\u003E\u003C\/o:p\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E  \u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E  \u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cp style=\"text-align: justify;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003E\r\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp style=\"text-align: justify;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003EParticularly over the past 21 years Kashmiri nation has lost over a hundred of thousand men women and children including some of its most illustrious sons of the soil. Among this multitude of sacrifices include the martyrdom of  Maqbool Butt, Ashfaq Majeed Wani, Abdul Hameed Sheikh, Abdul Gani Lone, Dr Abdul Ahad Guru, Dr Ashai, Professor Abdul Ahad Wani, Shabbir Siddiqui, Basharat Raza, Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammed Farooq, Hilal Baig, Ejaz Dar, Maqbool Ellahi, Altaf Qureshi, Ghulam Rasool Mir, Hardai Nath Wanchoo, Sheikh Abdul Aziz and  many more.
